There are experts in every industry around the world. We all depend on experts to make our lives easier. If you discovered you had a brain tumor, you’d want the best brain surgeon to be on the job. When your car has issues, yes you could fix it yourself but you’d much rather go see a mechanic. All of us are an expert at something in one particular area. I want to show you how to display your expertise.
Why You Want to Display Your Expertise
Entrepreneurship is crowded. Every market has tons of gurus, coaches and authors. So how do you stand out? When you display your expertise, you’re really separating yourself from the competition. You make people want to work with you because they see you have valuable information.
The better you get at displaying your expertise, the more attention you’ll get for the correct things. Products become easier to sell and the opportunities never stop coming. Experts are always experts. No one can take knowledge away form you.
Let’s look at a few ways you can display your expertise.
Dominate in the Narrow
First, you have to understand that experts are focused. Experts are dialed in on one specific thing. It’s difficult to be an expert in several different areas at once. The time, energy and effort it takes to become an expert on one topic is enough. Attempting to do several at once only slows you progress and makes growth difficult than it needs to be. You can avoid that entire headache by getting narrow on your niche.
For example, let’s say you need a marriage therapist. You don’t want to go through a divorce and you need a specific therapist to solve your problem. Would you choose a therapist that focuses on marriage or sex, marriage and self-esteem? The obvious choice would be the marriage therapist because they’re focused on your particular problem. This is the same way you want to present yourself to the market.
When people visit your social media page or website, they want to know that you can solve their particular problem. Experts solve one problem, not ten. Gain clarity on the one problem you want to solve. It’s best to select the thing you’re most effective at solving. We’ll get to that in a second.
The next step to display your expertise is to create content. Yes, I said it. I know it sounds like a lot of work. But it’s worth it. How else will people know about your greatness if you aren’t showing them consistently? You don’t have to write blogs every single do or nonstop record your life for YouTube. The most important thing to remember with content is that you want to make it educational.
Again, people look to experts for answers. Your content should be providing the answers they need. Batch producing content is a great way to create more of it and save time. You should also develop a plan for producing content ideas. The worst thing you can do is get stuck in the analyzing stage and never get any content posted.
Some of the entrepreneur gurus will tell you not to waste time posting content. That’s an unhealthy mindset for an expert to have. Then you end up spending thousands of dollars on Facebook ads to market yourself. Content is a key way to display your expertise. By skipping this step, you’ll pay for it with time and money.
- Lastly, you need to create a valuable product. There are a few pieces that make a product valuable to your market. it must solve a particular problem your ideal customer is facing. Make sure this problem is impactful enough for them to open their wallet. Otherwise you’ll always be an unpaid expert.
- The product must offer a specific outcome that is tangible or measurable. You need proof that your product works. Results are something that people can’t argue with.
- There must be an efficient system that you have in place to develop this product. It could be phone calls every week or emails everyday. The system must be duplicated so that you can use it repeatedly with your clients/customers and they always get similar results.
Valuable products display your expertise because you’re now proving that you have something people are willing to pay for. When people start paying you for products or service, it gets even easier to sell more of them. Then that opens to door for other opportunities that will generate you income. Unless prospects are becoming customers, you’re just an amateur.
How to Get Started
The first step to getting started is to gain clarity. You don’t want to just be another coach or speaker, you want to be a specialist in one area. Instead of being a health coach, by a health specialist for collegiate female athletes. Start the process by positioning properly.
Second, start creating content. The more content you create the better. Don’t worry about being good or bad. Just focus on putting your information out there. Don’t focus on the tools you don’t have or what you’re missing at the moment. Start writing blogs, recording YouTube videos or a podcast. Content will help you build your mailing list and display your expertise in front of your ideal customers.
Lastly, create your big product. Focus on providing your customers with an outcome that they just couldn’t resist. Write a simple outline describing where your client is now, the outcome you offer and the path you’ll take them on to get there. The results they receive will be tangible or measurable by using this process.
